Wiltshire based singer Barbara Gompels graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School London.  She moved to the South West and became a G.P. Partner in Market Lavington Surgery. Singing has always been Barbara’s passion and soon after moving she began studying with Geraldine Roche and more recently with Rosa Mannion. 

Barbara now regularly sings Solo for local Opera Groups including White Horse Opera as well as Oratorio, Concerts, Cabarets, Weddings, Funerals and Parties either solo or with her friend Paula Boyagis as "Due Voci".

Barbara has recently played the role of Electra in White Horse Opera's Idomeneo by Mozart and is currently enjoying touring as Rosalinde in Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus.

Also this year Barbara has sung the soprano solo for Brahms Requiem at Michael Cobb’s Choral Workshop, Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu for a funeral and in April the soprano solo for Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle for White Horse Opera conducted by their new MD Roland Melia. In May 2015 was coached by the wonderful Mary Plazas at a Jackdaws course when she sang Quando Men Vo from La Boheme. She has just sung the Queen of the Night Revenge Aria from the Magic Flute at the Sidmouth Street Christmas Festival.

In 2014 Barbara was delighted to sing Dulcissime and Amor Volat Undique from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana for Dauntsey’s School’s Grand Summer Concert.

Also in 2014 Barbara sang with international cellist Anup Biswas and American tenor Donald Boothman at a fundraising concert she hosted for the Mathieson Music Trust in India.  She also sang solo pieces for several concerts with Bath’s Silver Ring Choir.  She sang Rejoice and He shall Feed His Flock from Handel’s Messiah in White Horse Opera’s Christmas Concert.

2013 was a busy year , Barbara sang The Doll’s Song from Tales of Hoffmann and the Porgy & Bess duet Bess You is My Woman for a Rosa Mannion Concert.  She attended a Jackdaws Course at which she performed The Csardas from Die Fledermaus and sang the role of Gilda in the Rigoletto Quartet. She sang the Mery Wives of Windsor duet for WHO’s Spring Concert.  Barbara performed several numbers for Proms in the Park as Due Voci with Paula Boyagis and in December Due Voci gave a charity concert for the Friends of Erlestoke Prison at Bake Barn in Tisbury. At White Horse Opera’s Christmas Concert Barbara performed the Saint-SaŽns "Benedictus" from Oratorio de NoŽl with Niall Hoskin.
At the annual Easterton Cabaret Barbara sang the Flower Duet from Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and You’re the one that I want from Grease with Al Boyagis.

In 2012 Barbara sang the Soprano Solo of Mozart’s Laudate Dominum for Marlborough College Summer School. She also sang Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu and The Flower Duet from Lakme for the Mayor-making ceremony in Bath Abbey.

In 2011 she sang the First Soprano solo for a performance of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor "Great Mass" with White Horse Opera and Friends and particularly enjoyed singing "Et Incarnatus Est".  Barbara also sang the Soprano Solo in Faure’s Requiem for Melksham Choral Society and in The Haydn-Nelson Mass for Immaculate Conception Church.

Barbara has  retired from Medicine to further her singing and to spend more time with her husband and three children.
