Wiltshire based singer Barbara Gompels graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School London.  She moved to the South West and became a G.P. Partner in Market Lavington Surgery. Singing has always been Barbara’s passion and soon after moving she began studying with Geraldine Aylmer-Kelly and more recently with Rosa Mannion. 

Barbara now regularly sings Solo for local Opera Groups including White Horse Opera and Opera Piccola as well as Oratorio, Concerts, Cabarets, Weddings, Funerals and Parties either solo or with her friend Paula Boyagis as "Due Voci".

Barbara was cast as Diana in White Horse Opera’s main production for 2011, Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach  and is currently playing the role of Polly Peachum in The Beggar’s Opera by John Gay, WHO’s new touring production.

In 2011 she sang the First Soprano solo for a performance of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor "Great Mass" with White Horse Opera and Friends and particularly enjoyed singing "Et Incarnatus Est".  Barbara also sang the Soprano Solo in Faure’s Requiem for Melksham Choral Society and in The Haydn-Nelson Mass for Immaculate Conception Church.

Opera Piccola’s current concert repertoire includes Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess in which Barbara plays Bess.

Later this year Barbara is booked to sing the Soprano Solo of Mozart’s Laudate Dominum

Barbara has  retired from Medicine to further her singing and to spend more time with her husband and three children.
