Wiltshire based singer Barbara Gompels graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School London.  She moved to the South West and became a G.P. Partner in Market Lavington Surgery. Singing has always been Barbara’s passion and soon after moving she began studying with Geraldine Aylmer-Kelly and more recently with Rosa Mannion. 

Barbara now regularly sings Solo for local Opera Groups including White Horse Opera and Opera Piccola as well as Oratorio, Concerts, Cabarets, Weddings, Funerals and Parties either solo or with her friend Paula Boyagis as "Due Voci".

White Horse Opera had a hugely successful tour with Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro in which Barbara played the part of the Countess.  They performed to packed houses including two nights at the Salberg Theatre Salisbury Playhouse with a waiting list of 60!

Having just completed their second tour with the very popular Merry Wives of Windsor by Otto Nicolai, in which Barbara was cast in the title role of Mrs Ford, White Horse have begun rehearsing for G&S' Pirates of Penzance in which Barbara will play Mabel. Performances start in September with several advance bookings including "The Lights" Andover.

Other roles include Olympia the Doll - Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffmann and Queen of the Night - Mozart’s Magic Flute.

In June 2009 Barbara was asked by actor George Baker to perform with Simon Shepherd (Dr Will Preston in Peak Practice) at West Lavington Manor to raise money for the West Lavington Youth Club they were accompanied by Tom Worley on piano.

In 2008 Barbara recorded her first CD.

Barbara has recently retired from Medicine to further her singing and to spend more time with her husband and three children.
